Eureka! Art!
Ed Lohrum uses smoke to make art, and he’ll be the featured artists at Eureka Thyme from 6-8 p.m. Saturday. It’s part of Eureka’s May arts festival, our entertainment section cover this week at the Arkansas Times. Eureka Thyme is but one of many galleries in the artists’ hideaway in the Ozarks; I’ll post more news as it comes in to leslie@arktimes.com, OK?

Art Notes
Consider this a tumbling-twitter-tip off to timely tidbits from the Times.
Whither the Walton?
New hire’s prominence suggests it’s curtains for Fayetteville stage.
When the Walton Arts Center announced earlier this week that it had hired a new CEO who’d run the New York City Pops at Carnegie Hall for 10 years you knew it was serious about moving into the big leagues.
So no one will be surprised if Peter B. Lane, most recently CEO for the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts near...
A bit about James Turrell
Ondoe, blue
From artdaily comes news that the new James Turrell Museum of the Hess Art Collection opened yesterday in Colomé, Argentina. “The museum is the only one worldwide dedicated specifically to the work of James Turrell, who is regarded as one of the most important contemporary light and space artists,” artdaily reports.
The museum will have nine permanent light...
And while we're at it ...
Promoting students, that is, the Thea Foundation is exhibiting work by Parkview High School art students; a reception is set for 2-4 p.m. Friday, April 24.
Putting a face on art
The Arkansas Arts Council now has a facebook page. To become a fan, go here. The council is promoting its Artists’ Registry, which you can see here. Going to the registry and clicking on artists is a great way to pass the time (when you should be working) and learn more about who’s doing what around us. Here’s what I just found: the above painting, “The...

Students examine a watercolor by Dickie Tarkington, distributed last week as part of the Art Across Arkansas program.
Art Across Arkansas, which is taking art to schools across Arkansas, made its latest delivery to 26 schools last week, in Nevada, Clark, Ouachita and Columbia counties. The Thea Foundation and the Clinton Foundation have collaborated on this project since 2007, now art is...

Go ask Alice
Another museum is deaccessioning — selling off — works in its collection to keep its head above water, and what the Montclair Museum of Art in New Jersey has Alice Walton may want. Hudson River School and American Impressionist paintings valued between $25,000 and $300,000 (chump change to Ms. W) will be auctioned by Christie’s in May, along with a $300,000 Jackson Pollock...
$$$$ for art
Arts organizations that want to get in on the $302,100 coming to Arkansas thanks to the Recovery Act need to go to the Arkansas Arts Council’s website and click on the link to an application form. The money is meant to save jobs in the arts.
why has twitter quit?
That’s the question i’m asking my twitter page, which has mysteriously wiped out tumblr posts.

Arresting photographs
Bruce Jackson, a photography professor at SUNY at Buffalo, helped himself to some photographs of inmates from the early 20th century that he found in a drawer in 1975 at Cummins Prison and eventually posted them in an online exhibit. Now, he’s published them in “Pictures from a Drawer: Prison and the Art of Portraiture,” a book that relies more on the striking photographs than...
