Little Rock sculptor Kevin Kresse designed the rooster award above that will be presented tomorrow night to “True Grit” author Charles Portis and actor Morgan Freeman at the first Oxford American “Best of the South” gala. The rooster was inspired by the colophon at the end of every article in The Oxford American magazine, the OA says, but I like its link to Sheriff Cogburn in “True Grit.”
The rooster was forged at the Light and Time Design Studio in Royal, Arkansas.
The entire Capital Hotel has been taken over for the event, which “will recognize the best of Southern culture.” Mary Steenburgen will host.
